Benefits of Including Hot Oil Treatment to your Haircare Regimen

Natural and kinky hair are prone breakage due to becoming dull and brittle. Hot oil treatments can be beneficial because the nutrients in the oil penetrate the hair follicles. I try to do a hot oil treatment twice monthly. You can do them weekly depending on the needs of your hair and scalp. Routinely applying hot oil treatments can:

Helps to mend split ends. When the oil is hot (warm) it penetrates into hair and soaks into split ends helping to them smooth them down. Note: don’t do this in lieu of trimming your ends but this will simply help to keep your ends together until you’re able to get them trimmed. (Once the hair has split it was it they can’t unsplit.)

Reduces dandruff and helps with eczema. If you have scalp issues such as a flaky scalp, dandruff, and eczema; a Hot oil treatment before you shampoo can help prevent dandruff and dry scalp.

Improve nourishment of hair follicles. I like to do my hot oil treatments with a with a scalp massager. This helps to increase the blood circulation and the hot oil soothes and moisturizes the scalp. The nutrients from the oils provide nourishment from the outside in, increasing the blood flow and improving nourishment from inside out.

Prevent breakage. Consistently doing a hot oil treatment along with deep conditioning will help to strengthen your hair and intern prevent damage from heat, styling, and coloring. There are so many things we do in our hair care routines that cause damage and breakage.

Prevent frizz and add shine to the hair. Oil treatments can help reduce frizz and promote shine without weighing down the hair. My scalp tends to be dry so I have learned that doing a hot oil treatment frequently (twice a month) has helped my hair not be so dry brittle and reduces breakage. However, be careful not to over do treatments, too much of a good thing can be bad. When you over-saturate your hair with oils you can cause your hair to become greasy and weighed down.

DIY recipe for a hot oil treatment.

I love to make my own home treatments; however, a few times a year I go to a professional stylist. It’s nice to have someone else wash my hair every now and again. I suggest trying the Pumpkin Pie Hot Oil Treatment from CurlMix it’s a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Box for Curly Hair which includes all natural ingredients, easy and expert-tested recipes which are then sent directly to your door for only $28 with my discount code:  NATURALLYACT

Tip: Apply the hot oil to the hair and massage it into the scalp with your fingertips or scalp massager as a pre-poo treatment. Apply a plastic cap for 15 to 20 minutes, or use hair steamer like a Q-Redew, then rinse hair thoroughly.
